My new mk2 minter Empty
PostSubject: My new mk2 minter   My new mk2 minter EmptyMon Sep 08, 2008 12:50 am

hey folks, picked another dub up last week, is a mk2 1.3 but its in mint condition all over.

i started to strip her down yesterday the engine is pretty much knackered so i picked another engine up friday along with head gasket, timing belt, exhaust manifold gasket and oil filter, i took the old engine out yesterday took some of the bits i wanted off it ie; stainless 4-2-1 manifold, alternator, few other little bits. going to be fitting all this on to the other engine today. also going to custom make a stainless exhaust with a mk1 style single unswept back box

Im degreasing the engine bay, steam cleaning it then im going to rough it up abit with sand paper, then paint stone chip over all the rough patches of sealer from factory just to smooth it all off, let that dry and sand it down ready for paint.

Thanks to chimp ive got 2 brand new wings and a new bonnet all unpainted, im smoothing the little ridge half way down the body all the way around the car, and smoothing 1 t4 vent in the drivers side wing.

before all this im stripping the interior out so its pretty much a bare shell, gonna flip it over and do any work thats needed underneath then wax oil the whole underneath.

All this will be done today i will take photos step by step and keep you all posted, ive got really good plans for the mk2 and will hopefully be done within a few weeks, its probably the cleanest mk2 ive ever seen with absolutly no rust anywhere.

plans ive got fer her in the next few weeks;

totally smoothing the whole of the body, not smoothing panels into each other but smoothing ridges in body panels, smoothing bumpers, coilovers, ive got some 14" alloys off my r5 gtt which i might be putting on there 5 spoke with a little lip there off to be powder coated tomorrow, another interior its got nice rainbow interior atm but drivers seat is abit stretched and got a tear, mk1 style upswept single back box

Loads more to come so keep an eye on it, cheers

heres a few pics of how she looked about 2 months ago, will post some more up tonight of the progress.

Started again nice and early ths morning.

First thing was pressure wash the engine bay get any loose dirt and grime off, then got some red diesel (same as degreaser) ad brushed it on, then it was on to the head gasket did that in about 20 mins. i drained the oil out and fitted the oil filer then exhaust gasket, just been cleaning the engine up for the last hour n half.

Next thing on the list is changing stuff over from the other engine ie, pipes, alternator, started motor, etc etc. then taking the sub frame off the front along with the front bumper mount cleaning them up and giving them a few coats of wax oil along with the inner wheel arches and anything else i see that needs it.

heres a few more pics

changing the wings and bonnet because just before i got it the lad who owned it before me had some trouble n some1 was hitting it with a golf club on the bonnet and wings.

that is a r5 gtt you see and its been put to the back of the que for the time being, its running well over 200bhp with all steel internals, t25 hybrid turbo, full stainless, FMIC etc etc, project due to rust, but getting there.

as you will see in 1 of the pics my scooby that i just had resprayed same time as my mk3 gti
