| Is it the 1.8 or the 2.0? If its the 1.8 it'l be a KR. I'm guessing you got a K jet injection set up like me too, with all the braided fuel hoses? | |

| it isn't k-jet, its ke-jet (E stands for electronic.)
has a few electronic senders to clean up the emissions. audi and porsche were still using it well into the late 90's and whereas k-jet will fuel up to 180bhp, ke will do over 200, just.
it wont be a kr as rado's had a dif code. off the top of my head i cant remember which.
it's coz if irc the ke-jet engines had a knock sensor fitted so you could run low octane fuel without blowing the gasket between the pots. That means an extra hole tapped into the cylinder head same as the 9a/abf 2l lumps did.
They also run the same gearbag casing as the vr's so have a hydraulic clutch actuator to cope with the heavier duty clutch.

| all news to me! So technically if you had a faulty knock sensor and ran cheap petrol, you'd be in trouble? | |

You'd probably find it'd pink its tits off under load and not run awfully well - until it melted the tops off the pistons!! As for 16v's - all UK mk2 Golf 16v's were KR engine code (1800cc) with K-Jet injection and separate ignition ECU. Corrados had the KR engine with K-Jet until about 93 when they went to 9A engine (2000cc) with KE-Jet injection which is basically the same as K-Jet but runs extra sensors (knock sensor and lambda sensor) due to emissions laws (ie meant to have a cat on). 9A and KR have about the same power (136bhp I think), but sticking KR cams in a 9A takes it to 150bhp. The first 16v with Digifart electronic injection was the ABF (Mk3 Golf). As far as I know, the 1800 16v was never fitted with KE-Jet in the UK due to the emissions laws strangling the power (I think US had 1800 16v with KE-Jet). All Corrados were fitted with the hydraulic clutch set up (nicked from the Passat), although the clutches are the same as cable operated ones, its allegedly progress. The gearbox internals are all the same as well. Jacko | |
