Mk3 1.9TDi Estate Empty
PostSubject: Mk3 1.9TDi Estate   Mk3 1.9TDi Estate EmptySat Dec 19, 2009 2:10 am

Okay, thought I ought to let you lot know what I been playing with for the last month or so...... (as well as that lol!!)

Bought off ebay for £100 originally for the engine and box to put in the red Mk3 but upon inspection reckon its in no worse condition than the red one.
I got a Mk3 1.9TD estate!! 90bhp 1Z motor, so should be a bit quicker than the red one and plenty of tuning options (there are 1z's about running 200bhp (allegedly Laughing ), GL spec so leccy windows all round and sunroof, rear headrests and an estate so mahoosive boot!!
Its a Cat 3 write off, so gotta get a VIC done at Donny VOSA, but should p**s through that - all the numbers match!
Had to replace/sort out the electric windows (1 window not fitted when I got it, one broken wire and one bust motor), boot catch/handle was bust, one headlight is fooked, but gonna nick the ones off the red one for MOT and to start with, the central locking pump was knackered and the drivers door lock had a bit missing.......
Its a bit on the scruffy side, needs a pair of wings, back arches need some work and a general tidy up. Will get some pics took today, got an inner CV boot to do for MOT.....

Not planning to do too much to it for now - get it running and in use first, then maybe a small drop, some rims and then more power Twisted Evil

PostSubject: Re: Mk3 1.9TDi Estate   Mk3 1.9TDi Estate EmptySun Dec 20, 2009 1:10 am

Spent yesterday afternoon changing inner driveshaft boot, finished sorting the windows and door locks. Had a scrape at all the rust bubbles - and didin't find any major holes!!!
Took it for a quick run up the road to see what it drove like and then ran out of fuel! or at least I hope it's out of fuel Laughing
Drives okay - a bit vague and floaty compared to the red one (but thats on a Spax set up), but engine seems really strong, loads more grunt cheers

Took some pics, but forgot that the camera won't talk to Vista so will have to wait til Monday to download Mad

One steering rack boot knackered and 3 advisory notes - no passenger mirror (haven't got round to getting one off ebay yet!), bit of play in one track rod end and couple of rust holes in the floor round the bungs.

Have already replaced the steering rack boot, so back for retest before xmas and she has an MOT! Just sent VIC application to VOSA, so wait and see when they can be arsed to look at it then its on the road!!!!!!! dance

Took it for re-test on Xmas eve so now has 12 months MOT cheers

Booked in at VOSA Doncaster for VIC on Tuesday so all looking good.

Have attacked the rusty bits with a wire brush and have decided that it needs a pair of back arches and a pair of wings. All the rust bubbles on the doors have been rubbed back, treated, filled and are in primer now.

Once the bodywork is sorted, gonna drop it a touch start looking for some new rims........

This has now been sold to a mate but will keep you updated with what happens to it.
It passed VIC back in January with no probs. Then found that the battery would go flat overnight - even with a brand new battery..... removed the old original VW branded alarm and hey presto......battery doesn't go flat any more!!

All the bits I filled & primed have now been done white with a rattle can until we get chance to rub it down properly and give it a wave over with the spray gun.

Will be sat on a set of Speedline 15inch motorsport rims and will more than likely be getting a drop at some point.
I have some pics somewhere, but will get some more when its a bit tidier.
