yes if u get a mk2 gti cam it'll make it loads better, more power in high revs and it revs a lot better, but a mk3 gti wont have the same effect

the mk3 cam would be provide some increase however over your 1.6 cam.

the mk3 compared to the mk2 cam though is inferior due to the mk3 cam being more mild to make it more environmentally friendly.

you will want to have your carb set up or replace it with a good condition weber 32/34, in order to see the biggest benefit.

them old carbs bog down to easily.

Correct - standard 1600 with Kent GS2H fast road/rally cam, GTi exhaust manifold & system, standard 1600 Pooberg carb. Was a bit lumpy at idle, didn't really come on song until 4500rpm but went like hell from there - used to rev well past the red line on a GTi rev counter.
And I never got round to setting the carb up properly either Rolling Eyes

My old 1800 with a gti cam, weber carb, full gti exhaust system went like absolute stink, as jacko said over 4 grand it would just pull and pull right past the redline.

Good thing about them is you can get gti parts pretty cheap so its just the time fitting them, deffo worth it though.
