Got given something slightly outta the ord'nary last week......

1989 Mk2 Golf Syncro - the 1.8 carb'd 4wd one.

FREE (the best price!)

Got a blown head gasket and is prob'ly gonna need brakes and stuff cos been stood a while but looks solid!

No pics yet cos I haven't picked it up, but will post sum asap.

Hmmmm, dunno yet! Gotta get it home and have a proper look at it - hoping to collect it Monday nite.

Have found out that it has MOT til January 08 - BONUS
Oh, and a weber replacement carb on it - DOUBLE BONUS

I might just sort engine, tidy and sell for an easy profit then buy something slightly less rare........

Picked the beast up on Monday night - and it runs!

Still no pics cos I'm buggered if I know where I've left me digital camera!!

Anyways here's wots wrong with it -

Head gasket is well fubar'd
Bonnet needs polishing and lacquering (been painted but not lacquered!)
Dunno if 4wd system is working (anybody know how to check?? - and I've tried driving it off-road!)
One door handles busted

So first job is to whip the head off and do the gasket - hoping not to have to have head skimmed but............

Then when engine sorted have a look a the bodywork

Right, time 4 an update I think.

Sorry it's taken so long, been a bit busy sorting a mates rally car and running up and down the country to rallies with him for the last month!

Anyway, got the engine sorted, runs sweet as a nut.

Have sorted the dodgy bits of paint, just needs a good buffing and polishing, taxing and then its good to go!!

Would stick some pics up, but I've lost me bloody camera again!!

Am hoping to get the buffing done this week.

It's all done!!!!! Taxed it yesterday and drove it home from my mates yard. Drives alright - could prob'ly do with some new shocks (it's a bit 'floaty') but it goes like an absolute barsteward!!!!!

Spent this morning cleaning the inside so now it looks okay inside as well.
