| Bought a 1.9 diesel (non-turbo) Mk3 Golf this week. Needs a rear wheel bearing, some tyres and an MOT then it'll be my daily runner til I get the Jetta done (or it dies!). It's a bit scruffy and it's done the usual Dub thing for a red car - some of it is now pink!!!! Oh, and its done 274,000 miles and its only just over 10 years old (1998 on an R) Not gonna do much to it, maybe put the coilovers off the Jetta on so I can get it in the weeds, a pair of GTi headlights and tidy the paint up (although I might leave it scruffy.....). Not picked it up yet but will get some pics up when I get it.

| OK, picked it up this morning and it don't drive too bad. Spent a coupla hours this evening having a better look and it needs a set of front door handles/locks cos the lock barrels are knackered. Gonna have to do a timing belt and cam seals cos theres oil on the belt, also needs alternator belt and PAS belt and an oil and filter change. Other than that, could do with a slam panel cos its cracked (who decided plastic slam panels were a good idea???!!), a pair of front white reflectors and indicators. Inside is okay, could do with a clean and I managed to break a window winder taking the passenger door to bits to investigate the lock!! Will try to get some pics took tomorrow. Think I'll stick the coilovers on it cos its sat far too high....... | |

| Sorry, still no pics Have decided it actually needs a pair of bumpers - someone has painted them with some form of red paint that is matt and cracking - almost looks like emulsion or floor paint!! The rest of the paintwork hasn't faded that badly, apart from the bonnet, which is pink and the lacquer is falling off the roof on the drivers side. Oh and theres a few rust scabs on it, mainly on the doors, wings and back arches. If I can be bothered, I'll do something about them to smarten it up... Put 20 quids worth of diesel in it on Saturday and had to stick some more in today having done 200 miles this week, so getting somewhere around 50mpg Got a few jobs to do this weekend on it - cambelt etc etc so will get some pics took. | |

| Balls, forgot to bring the camera home from work!!
Got the cambelt, cam seal etc done today, so should at least now be safe for a while.
Jobs still to do - get the coilovers on it, sort the bumpers and generally smarten it up a bit. Might stick the 16's on it to see what it looks like??

| I wound the back end down about 3/4 inch this morning and took it for a quick run round on some lanes round here............and the front subframe was bouncing off the road in places So I've wound the front up a touch and it now sits level Haven't been out in it again to see what its like. Does seem to handle okay now though, and it ain't that hard, definitely not as hard as the Jetta was on the same kit, must be something to do with the extra 250kgs of a Mk3. | |

| Been for a ride to Corby in it today to collect a complete front panel that isn't cracked round the bonnet lock, with a radiator and a not very good bumper - fleabay bargain £35.
Didn't hit the floor once and it rides really quite well! Off to GSF tomorrow for some new brake discs, then just need to tidy it up a bit and its done - until something breaks!

| Got a pair of VR headlights this afternoon - dunno if they're any better cos I ain't driven it in the dark yet, but they can't be any worse!! Also got a parcel shelf so can now start on the install to get some reasonable tunes in it.... | |

| Update time!!
Spent far too much money on bits for this at Inters instead of buying bits for the Jetta! Got myself:
Pair of GTi rear lights, Grille with the right coloured metal bit (non-rotten) Pair of white front indicators Pair of clear side repeats Jetex panel filter
Also went for a trip to scrapyard near me and got a pair of foglamp blanks.
So it now looks more presentable. Next job is to sort some paintwork out.
Also done a bit of a boot install so I now have some decent tunes to drown out the diesel rattle!!!!

| Suppose it should be update time on this one...... Since last update I've replaced the coilovers with a Spax VR set up which ain't quite as low or hard (still quite hard though!). The bumpers have been replaced with some black ones and it has Driver (3-door!) front seats. Also have fitted a sumpguard (off a Nova stage rally car) and pair of Cibie Super Oscars - the lights are now awesome (VR headlights with 55W Xenon in dip and 130W in main beam and 130W in the spot lights) - like driving in daylight on main beam Its now sat on some 15inch gravel rally tyres (better in the snow and ice that track day semi-slicks!) and I haven't cleaned it for months so it is proper hanging | |
