the day of spraying is finally here.

Ive got all the wet'n'dry n brillo type stuff from work decided toget another pack of paper last nite to make sure ive got enough

Im off to Halfords soon to get the paint gonna get a few tins of red paint, primer and a tin of black so i can see where the holes are in the bumper.

Here are a few pics of todays progress. Tom85, Jamie_F gave me a had get the job done it took us a while.

Weve managed to get the bumper off with Toms mechanical genius. It is now had all the red paint removed (apart from a few little spots) and its all nice and smooth ready from spraying. Just gonna give it another final check over in the morning to see what we think.

Had another day at it today with Tom and Jamie been a good laugh and made good progress.

Got to Jamies just after dinna cuz he didnt finish work till 6 this morning so we let him have a liein. After calling him on his mobile and house fone, knowcking on his door and sounding Toms cow horn a few times with no answer we decided to go and wash the cars.

We then broke out the Auto Glym and polished up Toms and black he plastics aswell and she looks sweet now. We couldnt belive the change on the back bumper. Then had to goto skeg to get the masking tape we forgot (memory problems again).

We havent finished it yet have to put the laquer on tomorrow nite after we both finish work so i can have it back on the car then
I have been lookin the look of the car WITHOUT the bumper on though looks well mean

The plan did slightly change on how i was spraying it but it looks subtle and niec. Wasnt sure on the fog lamp holes cuz we was only using masking tape and didnt think n we could ge it to the right shape

looks a million times better dude,before it was pretty battered! look forward to seeing it on the car,only thing that was letting it down!

Yeah i agree man it was very bad.

It looked nice up against the car when we offered it up the car but the camera died so couldnt take any more

Will get the batteries charged and take some of tomorrows work.
Gonna be scared to drive it back incase i get a chip on it. We was thinking about covering it with a bin bag or summot so nothing got stuck on it so i can get it home and leave it here stood safe for a few days

I hope we get it lacquered and bolted on asap so we can enjoy the fruits of our labour!

Damn right the sooner its back on the car the better.

Do you think coverin the bumper with a few bin bags to protect the paint will be a good idea? Ive seen it on prototype cars when they move them before they are actually released. If not drive back with out the bumper on the car

nah man, if the laquer mix is right and of the right sort it should bounce alot of them stones away and be pretty safe... bin bags are a no go... lol... if you wanna cover it all you need a full on bra / nose bag to cover the lot.... i think nose bags look coolio, whilst the car is being used... then laid in front of the car theyve been protecting when on show, to show theyve been doin there job!

Thanx to Tom and Jamie for their help in doing the job wouldnt have done it so well without them. Also thank you to everyone on here who helped with the knowlege DIY.

One thing we have learned from doing this is that you shouldnt take the bumper off your MK2 golf unless you really really need to.
Its a huge pain in the ass to get it off and to get it back on again

Unless you have a small bumper as you wont trap your arm!
