Ive been sayin for ages i wanna get it sparayed before this show in Leeds at Harewood House.
Dont wanna show the car with all the chips if i can help it.
I was thinkin about gettin some rattle cans and wet'n'dry and doin it myself. Ive done a little bit of sprayin before on a few bits on the grill which came out ok. I jst dont want it to all come off again.

go for it man! it's not like it's a bit of the car people are going to look closely at.

How many cans of primer and paint you think it will take??

I dont wanna be sprayin nd run out of paint whilst im doing it

i'd say 2 cans of each to be safe mate.

Thanx ady i was hoping it wasnt gonna be to many cans as its not really a big area.

Ive been talkin to Slim today and i have thought of something a little different for my front bumper when i spray it.
Im just loading up photoshop and im gonna try and do a pic of a basic idea on there and i will post it when im done.

there was some kind of rattlin from your car on sunday night aswell???

i would spray your eyebrow aswell while your doing your bumper it will look better.

I think the rattelin will be the gearbox.
I have been told by several mechanics that i really need to get it sorted.
Been told that for the past year but still not done it

I got the idea for the bumper from a Shitroen c3. (pic below)


Around the foglights at the bottom is actually the color of the bodywork on the car (seen it on a silver one) n looked quite a nice idea.

I love the red and black color combo is looks well sweet and mean .
I will be keepin my eyebrow black eDub as it keeps with the colors and when you open the bonnet up to show shiny engine the red doesnt break up the black (unless i painted the front panel red as well)

i think if you spray all of it black it will look like you cant be bothered to spray the bumpers.. sorta like paint by numbers

The plastic on the bumper will be nice n shiny so it will still look like the rest of the car. Plus in time im gonna spray all the black plastic trim a gloss black so i can polish that aswell to it makes it easier to clean the car

Its your gearbox mate, Whined in 1st and 2nd when you set off from mine tonight. Couldn't hear a rattle tho.

you should be able to pic up and recon of ebay or one of the vw sites.

I tolfd you it was bad man it does need sortin will be able to drive to car a bit more then cuz it makes it hard to change gears

Right the bumper is 100% getting done this weekend and i need asmuch advise as possible about doing it.
I started to take a lil bit of the paint off last nite and with some 400 grade wet n dry it didnt take me long to get a little section back to the white basecoat again.

So any hits or tips from ya'll who have tried your hand at it before.
Im sure if my memory is correct there was someone on here who has had their hands in workin/owning a bodyshop at some point.

hardcore mate but he aint on line at the minute. all i can say is make sure it is clean when painting it,all the nooks n crannies have atleast been scotched so the new paint sticks,gotta have a key u see or it wont hold n will flake and look shite! when u prime it,use some black spray,lightly over the bumper so u can use that as a guide to how smooth its gonna be,they call that an idiot coat,but it works. paint does smell nice but dont inhale too much,makes ya longs go funny n herb tastes rank! im know expert n probably forgot something but i think thats about as much as i can help without asking the man himself!

So i should sand it all of with me wet'n'dry (is a sander advisable?),
then spary with the primer then spray a black coat then put the red on top in the areas that i want it?

I got my wet'n'dry from work tonite got 2 sheets of each grade 400, 180 and 120. I also got the same grades in wet'n'dry sponges aswell hopefully they will last the job. Getting the paint from halfords on saturday before i goto Jamie_f's to do it hopefully with the help of Tom85 aswell. Get it all sanded as quick as possible so i have the most time to paint it and let it dry before next weekend.

How many coats you suggest of laquer? I think when i sprayed the last eyebrow i put on the old 2-lamp grill i put about 4-8 coats on so it didnt chip like when i sprayed the metal stip at the bottom of the grill.

just one tip mate, don't rush the prep work.

I wont it took me over 4 or 5 hours to sand the metal bit on the bottom of the grill back to the metal again when i sprayed that. Im just hoping that it should take long if 3 of us can get on it?

Would an electri sander be on for the larger areas such as the sides?

i will be working my way through the grades going from course to medium to fine before i spray

Just need to find some more time to tidy it up a bit more and get a new gearbox sorted so i can clean that up before it goes on the car
(mite aswell clean it whilst its off the car so i can get to it all)

dude, when u have primed the bumper,use some matt black and lightly dust over the whole thing,not a coat,just so it speckles,u then use that for ure final sand down and when the black spots have gone it should be as smooth as it can be. like ady said,its all about the prep work,make sure u get plenty of sandpaper n the scotch stuff is kind of like brillo pads which u use to get in the nooks n crannies so the paint has a key to stick to! j's off line due to personal stuff,he will be back when he can!
