| OK here's the latest in a long line of mk2s, it was cheap and cheerful, plenty of TnT, has age related marks, but apart from a bit of grot on one rear arch, shes in pretty good shape, I'd even say the sills are better than the A plate mk2, and they were mint! Its a 1.8 GL with electric windows, non working central locking (has a clifford system on it with fuses missing, but I've no idea how to make it all work again), 103k miles, and in need of a gear linkage bush on the gearbox side. Oh and new door cards seeing as speaker DO NOT belong there! Anyways here she is...

| Upon closer inspection, I'm 100% sure this car has been de-modded at some point for sale, as it had alloy wheel bolt covers in the glovebox, has a straight through middle section, brand new over axle and back box, has a cut out of the rear valance stamp (for a twin pipe backbox most likely), and I'm sure its had a later rear panel welded on as early quarter light models defo didn't have the vw badge in the middle, also the "golf gl" badge looks new (people that know mk2s as well as me will know its unlikely to find a badge that doesn't have the silver bit of the badge rubbed off), also its lowered 40mm, and not many people have a clifford system fitted to a standard golf like this, so I'd say its had a lot of good stuff removed at some point | |

| Got some jetta gti door cards to replace the butchered ones, and a gear linkage with bushes so the gearshift is nice and tight now. Also got some mk3 driver front seats but found mk3s don't fit!!! So I might try and shift the lot for a full gti interior instead. Happy with the non-holy door cards though Had to do pics this way, photobucket tells me I've exceeded my badwidth? Anyone want some nice mk3 driver seats? Ones half cleaned the other isn't, gave up when I realised the subframe is too wide! | |

| Picked up an 89 gti 8v today for a donor, shame to break it but its been round the block a bit and its been rollered matt black. Pulls like a trooper but the tappets are ticking theyre tits off, so some new hydraulic tappets will be needed. Will get pics soon, and when I get round to swapping the engine and loom. Any tips for the job to come? | |

| Only 1 i can think of is label all the wires as you take them off the donor car so you know where to plug em in! | |

| thats top of my list! I'm a competent mechanic but an electrician I am not! I guess its as simple as taking the dashboards out and unplugging everything from the glovebox that goes toward the engine and swapping it? | |

Pretty much. Worst part is the main lump of loom that goes through behind servo. iirc the servo has to come out to get it through..... | |

| quick pic of the 2 together, the GL is on space savers as I used my wheels to get it home. I've got some mitsubishi steels to roll the donor on but the centre bore is too small so they don't fit well. | |

| Had to drain all the petrol out of it (about £10s worth), so while I was waiting for it to dribble out and fill my jerry cans, I set to work removing the front bumper, crossmember, radiator, and hoses. No pics though | |

| no pics today as I forgot the camera, but I'm almost ready to remove the engine and gearbox, all thats left is to remove driveshafts, and clutch cable (which is being a pig, any tips?). Now I've unplugged all the loom the thought of transferring all that onto my GL is quite scary | |
