could be the outer cvs buggered, try jacking both front wheels up and try it in gear with the bonnet popped rev the engine n see if the shafts are spinning as you rev it.

Well I'm a very happy bunny now! Put the gti clutch cable on and it works now, just taken it for its first drive since the transplant and its all good apart from the clutch slipping like hell, but that can only be the grease off my hands when I refitted it as it worked fine when I drove the donor car home. Just a few bits of interior to put in, put the exhaust on (yes it is loud without one!), swap the metal water pipe from the spare engine as mines leaking, and we're all good!

good stuff, only a bit of tinkering then really?? if ya clutch is slipping make sure the clutch cable is letting it release fully, think on one of my golfs the replacement i got was shorter by about 5 mm for some reason so i ended up putting on with out that bubber bungy bit...

Yea Im gonna check that today, I can't see any other reason it should slip as its all as it was on the donor, but I'm gonna let the cable off a tad to see if it bites any better, if not I'l just have to hope the grease burns off soon as I doubt its even fit to go up a hill at the mo.

gotta be the cable, the grease should have burnt off when you drove around in it mate... minor complication anyway!!

Yea it should burn off after a bit of abuse. There won't really be as much progress now in such a short space of time, only things left to do are get the 16v MC on and fit the disc rear beam. Unless a cheap ABF or G60 lump comes up cheap then I'l be ripping the whole lot out again lol

cheers mate, gonna try and tie up all the loose ends today and get the car complete again. Also gonna fit some new exhaust manifold gaskets today

someones mentioned pouring coke down the green plug on the bell housing to get rid of the grease... Not sure on this though, anyone heard of this before?

ive heard this about coke but i think it has to be the pure stuff that they use before its fizzy, apparently its good for flushing engines n all but im not sure if id do it tbh! get something proper,after all this work it would be a sh*t to fook it up over somethng like that!

yea thats why I've asked, don't wanna risk making it worse. Might just take it down the garage and yank the handbrake up and rev the nuts off it in 5th to get it burnt off where the neighbours cant complain! Next time this comes apart will be for the other engine I have, don't wanna have to break my back again anythime soon!

I just realised theres no pics of the engine finished up in its new home so here ya go. Its also rocking a matt black bonnet off the donor as the jade green one needs paint badly (or gloss black vinyl, the black bonnet has got me thinking)

get it running mate , then get the grease off the clutch then advertise it, youll get more for it then!!

cant you wire the fuel pump or the coil side of its relay through a switch so you can switch the fuel pump to pressurize the system then try one of your many ecu's??

tried that weeks ago mate. I've got a broken hand in cast for the forseeable future so I can't do anything with it

its likely another digifant engine loom would probably cure it, so £20 and a days work should have it sorted. I've found a rather nice mk3 gti anni I fancy so hoping the 306 and golf go soon! Its depressing me having the golf sat there for so long going nowhere. Even had to put it in gear and take the handbrake off as it was sticking on with it being sat so long!

quick update on the golf, its now a runner

its still going in the garage over winter, then next year it shall have a service, new clutch, a few bits of wiring tied up, oh and tax and insurance

Right then, my interior is all back together now, with working electric windows and CD player. I've looked into why my interior background lights/number plate lights aren't working and it seems I have power at the back of the switch but no power to fuse 20. So I'm gonna investigate that tomorrow.

And why is it every mk2 I've ever had DOESN'T want to let me push a head unit in all the way?? Really bugs me! Also I've decided I'd like to swap my chrome door handles for black ones, Already have 2 off the donor car so will swap with someone, even if they have a 3 door. Also decided to put the P slots up for swaps with RA's, I fancy a change.

Oh and its now taxed and on the road

Update, will be rolling on 15" BBS RA's as of tonight and I'm hoping to pick up some genuine VW roof bars on sunday

I know ts dark, but I couldn't resist, looks so different now! My only disappointment is it now looks a bit like a gti, and that was the look I was avoiding, but I prefer the RA's
